We welcomed our baby girl in a totally unexpected way...
We went to the prenatal check up on 12th, 2 days after Yuri's due date,
and we found out that our baby was breach.
Then, our midwives tried to turn her inside of Yuri's belly
for about 2 hours, and she did not want to be flipped.
(Yuri felt it was more like 4 hours and more painful than labor itself!)
Therefore, she was transferred to OHSU,
and their doctors tried to turn her over again with an epidural.
When Yuri was at the hospital, she was already dilated,
and in the stage of "active labor," which means she could have the baby anytime.
They tried really hard to flip her
although they usually reject to do this sort of procedure at such last minute.
When we took the photo below,
we still thought that it would be easy to flip her,
and we could go home soon to have the labor at home.
However, while the doctors tried to flip the baby,
her heart rate went really low.
And, Yuri had to take an emergency c section to save her.
It was like a fast forwarded ER, the TV show.
Our minds could not move as fast as all other people in the operation rooms.
About 10 minutes after or even faster from when they told us about the c section,
our beautiful baby came outside into the world, alive and healthy!
It was February 12th at 7:52 pm.
She weighted 7lb 5.5oz and, she was 20 inches long.
The doctor listened to our biggest wish,
that we could hold her skin to skin soon after she was born.
It was unfortunate that we could not have a home birth.
However, we think everything was meant to happen,
and we would like to consider her birth as a warm and welcoming moment.
She was not born in an unwanted way,
but she was born surrounded by all people who cared for her...
people who look forward to meeting her
and people who wanted to save her and her mother.
So, welcome to the world, our baby girl.
We already love you a lot.
